RIISA – Orthodox Church Museum of Finland

RIISA – Orthodox Church Museum of Finland is a museum located in the city of Kuopio, and specializes in the research, preservation and archiving of the visual and tangible cultural heritage of the Finnish Orthodox Church. Its unique collections are based on items from the Orthodox parishes of the Karelia and Petsamo areas and the Monasteries of Valamo, Konevitsa and Petsamo obtained through the evacuations that took place during the Second World War.

The icons, liturgical vessels and textiles, and rare books and manuscripts that make up RIISA’s extensive collections range in age from the 16th century up to the present day, and its archives contain a wealth of historical documents, maps and building plans.
