Skating on natural ice in Kuopio

Ice skating on the ice of Lake Kallavesi is one of the most popular winter activities in Kuopio. Kallavesi ice skating track is free for use for everyone and is usually up to 12,5 kilometers long. The track is also being used as an official race track of Finland Ice Marathon event in February.

The track starts from Kuopio Passenger Harbor, near the city center. Skaters are served by the lovely Winter Cafe and equipment rental in M/S Queen R boat, which has been anchored to the harbor for the winter. In addition to skating monos and blades, kick sleds and cross-country skis are also available.

You can also head to the track with your own equipment and from the other beaches along the skating track. Along the track, right next to the harbor, is a lovely campfire site for resting and eating.
